题目：Arming Cops, Saving Kids: The Impact of Tech-Enhanced Policing on Missing Children in China
内容摘要：Based on panel data from 337 Chinese cities between 2000 and 2012, this study examines the impact of the "Technology-Enhanced Policing" reform on child missing cases. Using a staggered difference-in-differences design, we find that the policy reduced the number of missing children by an average of 22.3%. The effect was most pronounced among infants aged 0–3, with a notable decline of 25.2% observed specifically among newborn girls. Mechanism analysis reveals that the policy operated not through expansion of police force size or extended working hours, but rather through investments in public security information infrastructure and enhanced officer training, which improved case-resolution efficiency. The effects were particularly strong in urban districts, cities with better transportation access, those with higher historical incidence of missing children, and regions exhibiting stronger son preference.
